Life Biosciences has received FDA approval to begin the first human trial of cellular reprogramming for age reversal. The study will test ER-100, a treatment using three reprogramming genes delivered via virus to treat glaucoma patients. The technique attempts to restore cells to a healthier state by resetting epigenetic controls, though it carries risks including potential cancer formation. About a dozen patients will receive the treatment in one eye, with genes activated by doxycycline antibiotic for two months. While other well-funded companies are researching reprogramming, Life Biosciences is first to reach human trials, though scientists debate whether this truly constitutes age reversal and question the safety of the chosen approach.
