The FCC has issued a ban on foreign-made Wi-Fi routers in the US, citing security concerns over state-sponsored hacking risks. Nearly every major router brand — including TP-Link, Netgear, Asus, Linksys, eero, Google Nest, Ubiquiti, and Synology — relies on overseas manufacturing, primarily in China and Vietnam, making them all potentially affected. Current routers will continue to work and receive firmware updates until March 1, 2027, after which manufacturers without 'conditional approval' or US-based production may be barred from issuing new firmware. Starlink is highlighted as a rare exception, with hardware largely assembled in the US. The ban could lead to limited availability, price hikes, or market exits for many familiar brands.
