The European Commission has announced its open-source age verification app is technically ready for deployment. Built on zero-knowledge proof cryptography, the app lets users confirm their age using a passport or national ID without exposing personal data to platforms. It is compatible with mobile and desktop, aligns with the EU Digital Identity Wallet rollout, and shares architecture with the EU COVID digital certificate. The app enters a pilot phase with member states and platforms, with source code publicly available. The Commission is also intensifying DSA enforcement against platforms failing to protect minors, including formal proceedings against Snapchat and preliminary breach findings against several adult content sites.
