The Best Software I’ve Ever Used Was Written by One Person

This is pure gold. It perfectly articulates the discomfort I feel toward recent software. As a software engineer, I cannot approve of everything because generating revenue is necessary, but in today’s world, where the majority of software is not owned or allowed to be owned, such as cloud and SaaS, using computers is convenient, but at the same time, I sometimes feel that I am being indirectly manipulated by large corporations.

As a member of a team where the analyst says one thing, the project manager says something else, and the designer creates mock-ups for yet something different, I cannot express in words how relatable this feels.
My best work was indeed when I was talking directly to the users, doing the analysis myself, and writing the code together with a colleague, with minimal intervention from management. Not always alone, but at least in total sync with the others.
But in the end, this is something that can be said for everything in life, the more people get involved, the harder it is to take a decision and maintain a coherent vision. I cannot even agree with my wife on how to arrange the kids room.
