Tetrate has launched Built on Envoy, a free open source extensions marketplace for the Envoy proxy. The marketplace addresses common adoption barriers including WAF integration, OAuth2, SAML, and AI governance needs like LLM request filtering. Extensions are packaged as ready-to-use components covering security, AI governance, and operational needs. A CLI package manager lets developers run Envoy with extensions locally. Released under Apache 2.0, the project aims to prevent teams from duplicating effort by sharing proven solutions community-wide. Envoy creator Matt Klein endorsed the initiative, noting that new support for Go and Rust extensions will broaden accessibility beyond C++ specialists.
