A detailed endurance test of various DVD±RW discs measuring how many rewrite cycles each can survive before verification failure. Using a Lite-On iHAS120 6 drive and automated Python/pyautogui scripts with Opti Drive Control, multiple disc brands and formats were tested over half a year. Results varied widely: a TDK 2x DVD-RW survived 1000+ cycles (the only disc to meet spec), a JVC Victor 6x DVD-RW reached 639 cycles, while some discs like Verbatim 4x DVD+RW and Memorex 8x DVD+RW failed around 100 cycles. DVD-RW discs generally outperformed DVD+RW in this test. A bonus experiment with DC Erase on a failed Verbatim disc showed temporary revival but no lasting quality improvement. Both test drives accumulated over 4000 hours of operation and remained functional throughout.
