Who’s this “we,” kimosabe? Personally, I welcome AI as a tool that artists and writers can wield. It’s not all doom and gloom. By that logic, you might as well argue the fill tool is cheating and that “real” artists must tediously hand-paint every square inch to be authentic.
There are developers building open models, local-only tools, and opt-in-first experiences. There are artists using AI to enhance their visions—not replace them. If you ignore those efforts, you’re missing the part of the story where people reclaim the tech. We already have creators using AI for voice work and in-between animation frames, letting them realize projects without a studio-sized budget. That’s not stealing jobs—that’s empowering enthusiastic amateurs who never had access to the industry in the first place.
I’ll concede there are bad actors, privacy issues, and a desperate need for ethical training of visual models. But I also see the potential for far more good than harm. AI can democratize creativity, not destroy it.
No one cried that it was the death of art when Adobe introduced smart fill. What’s happening now is simply the natural evolution of creative tools. Let the corporations crank out their generic content—we all know true art finds its tribe. There will always be a place for human-made work. Always.
