T. Alan Hatton, MIT's Ralph Landau Professor of Chemical Engineering Practice, received the 2026 Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education. The award recognizes his 36-year leadership of MIT's Chemical Engineering Practice School, where he transformed an industry-integrated educational model that embeds graduate students in real companies to solve open-ended technical problems. Under his direction, the program expanded from limited regional partnerships to global collaborations across pharmaceuticals, energy, materials, and other sectors. The $500,000 prize will support further evolution of the immersive learning model that has trained thousands of engineering leaders.
