Switching from Wi-Fi to wired Ethernet throughout a home delivers noticeably more consistent and responsive networking. Wi-Fi operates half-duplex and is susceptible to interference, neighbor signal overlap, jitter, and packet retransmissions, all of which cause variable performance. Ethernet eliminates most of these issues by being full-duplex and unaffected by environmental conditions. As a bonus, offloading wired-capable devices frees up wireless airtime, improving Wi-Fi performance for devices that truly need it. Smart home devices in particular benefit from being isolated on their own SSID to reduce broadcast traffic overhead.
