In the 1960s, experts thought that we would have flying cars by 1980, and they thought computers would be small enough to only occupy a single room by the year 2000, based on their trajectories. Instead we have had near zero innovation with cars since the 60s, but computers have become about a million times faster and smaller than predicted. I think 20 years is way too far away to give any meaningful predictions.</p>
<p>AI innovation may virtually stop tomorrow with only minor improvements over the next 20 years, or perhaps we are all dead within a decade by something beyond what we thought general artificial intelligence could even be, if innovation in AI truly stays a exponential without flattening out.</p>
