<h1>My Guide to Supercharging Claude Code</h1>
<p>I’ve been using Claude Code quite a bit and have landed on a setup that works really well for me. It goes beyond the basic installation to unlock its true potential with tools and a solid workflow. Here’s my personal guide, broken down into phases.</p>

<h2>Phase 1: The Prerequisites</h2>
<p>First, you need the basics in place:</p>
<ul>
<li>A Claude Pro subscription (the $20/month plan).</li>
<li>Claude Code installed (<a href="https://www.anthropic.com/claude-code" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">https://www.anthropic.com/claude-code</a>).</li>
<li>(Optional but useful) The Claude Code VSCode extension (<a href="https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code/ide-integrations" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code/ide-integrations</a>).</li>
</ul>
<h2>Phase 2: Supercharging Claude Code</h2>
<p>Next, add these two utilities to enhance the experience:</p>
<ul>
<li>Install and check out SuperClaude (<a href="https://github.com/NomenAK/SuperClaude" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">https://github.com/NomenAK/SuperClaude</a>).</li>
<li>Install and check out Claudia (<a href="https://github.com/getAsterisk/claudia" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">https://github.com/getAsterisk/claudia</a>).</li>
</ul>
<h2>Phase 3: The <a href="http://CLAUDE.md" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">CLAUDE.md</a> File</h2>
<p>Context is everything.</p>
<ul>
<li>SuperClaude already sets up a <code>CLAUDE.md</code> file in your home directory (<code>~/.claude</code>), so you don’t need to tweak that one too much.</li>
<li>For every project you work on, remember to create a <code>CLAUDE.md</code> <strong>in your project’s root directory</strong>. Use it to explain the project’s purpose, coding style, and other key guidelines. Keep it updated as the project evolves.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Phase 4: MCPs All the Way</h2>
<p>Model-steered Context Protocols (MCPs) are essential. You can add them using the <code>claude mcp add</code> command or by defining them in your <code>~/.claude/claude.json</code> file.</p>
<p>Everyone has their own preferred set of MCPs, but here are my non-negotiable suggestions:</p>
<ul>

<li><strong>Fetch (for making web requests):</strong><pre><code class="language-bash">claude mcp add fetch -s user -- npx -y @kazuph/mcp-fetch

<p>Those are my go-to ones.</p>

<p>I can’t stress enough how important MCPs are in Claude Code for saving tokens and providing specific context.</p>
<h2>Phase 5: Agents</h2>
<p>Claude Code recently shipped agents, which are specialized prompts that Claude can call just like any other tool. I find them quite useful. You can create them using the <code>/agents</code> command while in the Claude Code interface.</p>
<p>They are stored as Markdown files in <code>~/.claude/agents/</code>, so you can also copy the ones I use from this unmerged PR: <a href="https://github.com/hesreallyhim/awesome-claude-code/pull/72/files" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">https://github.com/hesreallyhim/awesome-claude-code/pull/72/files</a>.</p>
<h2>Phase 6: Learn How to Use Your Setup</h2>
<p>Finally, remember how to work with it. You shouldn’t think of Claude Code as a wizard. Instead, you should always:</p>
<ul>
<li>Instruct it to break plans into smaller, distinct actions.</li>
<li>Have it write Markdown files detailing the plan in actionable steps.</li>
<li>Require it to propose solutions <em>before</em> writing any code.</li>
<li>Make it use the tools (MCPs) it has at its disposal.</li>
</ul>
<p>Always review the changes Claude Code makes to your code one by one, and use an IDE with good error-checking capabilities (like VS Code with ESLint).</p>
<p>Sometimes Claude Code overcomplicates things; call it out on that and guide it manually when needed. It’s a tool, not a code wizard. Hope this helps!</p>
