Playwright now offers AI-powered testing agents that can plan, generate, and fix tests automatically using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Three specialized agents handle test planning, code generation, and healing broken tests by reading accessible trees, verifying elements before writing code, and debugging with network/console access. The agents can authenticate securely using project dependencies, work in headless mode, and avoid common pitfalls like adding unnecessary timeouts. Tests can be generated from natural language descriptions in under an hour, with the healer agent fixing failing tests by adding data-test-ids or flagging application bugs rather than forcing tests to pass. Future updates will support markdown-based test definitions and automated loops, making testing accessible to anyone regardless of coding expertise.
