<p>After the runtime fee announcement unity got … . I admit it was really, really  bad.
So I thought about replacing unity and using other engines instead.
Here is summary of what i found and my thoughts:</p>
<h1>Unreal</h1>
<h3>Pros</h3>

<li>really good shader graph tools</li>
<li>easy to use for beginners visual scripting</li>
<li>lots of nice tools to speed up development</li>
<li>pretty large amount of tutorials, not as much as on unity but enough.</li>
<li>the best 3d graphics</li>
<li>deterministic physics</li>
</ul>
<h3>Cons</h3>
<ul>
<li>lack of good documentation for c++</li>
<li>can’t be used for complex graphics programming</li>
<li>lack of support for other langs</li>
<li>REALLY resource expensive (especially GPU) for development and  for players</li>
<li>can’t be used for 2d games</li>
</ul>
<h1>Unity</h1>
<h3>Pros</h3>
<ul>
<li>easy for beginners visual scripting but not as great as the unreal one</li>
<li>lots of nice tools to speed up development</li>
<li>the best community</li>
<li>lots of assets on unity asset store</li>
<li>the best multi-platform support</li>
<li>great 3d/ 2d graphics</li>
<li>good enough optimization</li>
<li>custom render pipeline, compute shaders</li>
<li>The best documentation: c# has a great documentation and the engine it self also has.</li>
<li>c#</li>
<li>GPU occlusion culling</li>
</ul>
<h3>Cons</h3>
<ul>
<li>Not as good graphics as unreal</li>
<li>Not as light weight as Godot</li>
<li>Unreal has better shader graphs</li>
<li>not deterministic, buggy, sometimes relay weird  physics</li>
</ul>
<h1>Godot</h1>
<h3>Pros</h3>
<ul>
<li>support of <strong>c#</strong>, rust, GDScript, c++ and other languages</li>
<li>lightweight</li>
<li>really nice for 2d games</li>
</ul>
<h3>cons</h3>
<ul>
<li>
<p>can’t be used for complex graphics programming</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>not as intuitive editor as in unity and unreal</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>sadly not as big community as the unity and unreal one. That changes but at the time  there are more tutorials on complex topics on unity</p>

<p>Godot is not that great for 3d + from what i heard it’s not as finished for mobile as unity</p>
</li>

<h1>looking closely unity is a really good engine!</h1>
<p>For the time being I’ll mostly stay using unity, because I know it well and I really like c#.
But I’ll also experiment with other engines!</p>
<h1>So what Should <strong>you</strong> use?</h1>
<h1>Use the tools that you know best!</h1>
<p>REALLY! Don’t learn lots of tools that you are not going to use, currently all engines are relay polished, and have similar features, master your tools!</p>
<h1>but I’m new to game dev and I don’t know any engine.</h1>
<p>It’s a great time to start your journey. you have many great options based on plans:</p>
<h2>2d games</h2>
<p>I recommend you start with unity, but also Godot is not bad at all.</p>
<h2>3d</h2>

<p>if you don’t relay know how to code start with Unreal, you can do pretty much everything with visual scripting</p>

<p>BUT if you know c# the best option is unity</p>

<p>yeah, I know… there are a lot of other options like bevy, rpg-maker etc.
But most things aren’t ready for production or don’t have as many features, don’t have tutorials/documentation, no one knows about them</p>
