Meta's StyleX is a CSS-in-JS library designed for large-scale applications, addressing maintainability challenges at massive scale. Unlike Tailwind's utility-class syntax, StyleX uses JavaScript objects and compiles to atomic CSS at build time. Meta engineers argue StyleX offers better maintainability than Tailwind while handling the complexity of thousands of components across Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta properties. Both solutions use atomic CSS to reduce stylesheet size, but StyleX is optimized for React and enterprise-scale codebases. For most developers, traditional CSS or Tailwind remains sufficient unless operating at Facebook-level scale.
