Automattic has introduced Studio, a fast and free way to develop locally with WordPress. It provides a solution to running WordPress locally, which has been a challenge in the past. Studio is tied into WordPress.com but can be used even if not hosting on WordPress.com. The technology behind Studio includes PHP running as a WebAssembly binary, MySQL being replaced by SQLite via a WordPress plugin, and a web server implemented in JavaScript as a Service Worker.
