A hands-on account of trying to set up a couch-gaming Linux system on an old PC with an Nvidia GTX 1080 (Pascal GPU). SteamOS failed due to poor Nvidia compatibility, Nobara and Garuda both crashed with the outdated GPU, and Bazzite was skipped due to immutability concerns. Pop_OS! ultimately succeeded after manually installing the legacy nvidia-driver-550 and pinning it to prevent auto-updates. The resulting setup runs modern Steam titles at 2K 60+ FPS on decade-old hardware.
