Valve's Steam Survey for March 2026 shows Linux gaming marketshare surging to 5.33%, an all-time high and more than double macOS's 2.35%. The massive 3.1 percentage point spike is partly attributed to Valve correcting Steam China data, which caused a 31.85% drop in Simplified Chinese language usage. Windows fell 4.28% to 92.33%. About a quarter of Linux Steam users run SteamOS, and AMD CPUs account for nearly 70% of Linux gamers' hardware due to the Steam Deck and AMD's open-source driver support.
