The stats19 R package has been updated to version 4.0.0, introducing a unified column schema that enables seamless analysis of 45 years of UK road crash data (1979–2024) without mismatched column names. Key improvements include: automatic detection and merging of historic vs. modern column variants, a custom CSV parser that eliminates unmatched-column warnings, a fix for truncated 2024 lat/lon values, standardised NA handling for deprecated/missing codes, and faster loading via readr Edition 2 multi-threaded parsing. New functions include match_tag() for joining government TAG cost estimates, and clean_make()/clean_model() for standardising 2,400+ raw vehicle strings. Multi-year bulk downloads are now more efficient. The package is pre-CRAN and available via rOpenSci GitHub.
