Over the past year we’ve found a nice balance between adding new features, bug fixing, polishing the user interface, and improving performance and workflow, with stability taking priority over feature creep.

Kdenlive's annual state-of-the-project report covering 2025 development activity and the road ahead. Three major releases shipped: 25.04 added automatic object masking via SAM2, OpenTimelineIO C++ rewrite, and 300% audio waveform performance boost; 25.08 focused on stabilization with 300+ commits and 15+ crash fixes, plus audio mixer and markers overhaul; 25.12 introduced a new docking system, welcome screen, and redesigned monitor. Upcoming 26.04 brings monitor mirroring and animated transition previews. The roadmap includes 10/12-bit color support, OpenFX, a Dopesheet keyframing system (funded by NLnet NGI Zero), and a Microsoft Store release. In 2025, 38 contributors submitted code, the app was downloaded 11.5 million times, and the project received €9,344 in donations.
