GitHub has released a public preview of the Agent tasks REST API, allowing Copilot Business and Enterprise users to programmatically trigger Copilot cloud agent tasks. The agent runs in its own development environment, makes code changes, validates them, and opens pull requests. Use cases include bulk refactors across repositories, internal developer portal integrations, and automated release preparation. Task progress can also be tracked via the API. Authentication supports personal access tokens and OAuth tokens, with GitHub App installation tokens and Copilot Pro/Pro+ support coming soon.
