StageX is a container-native, fully source-bootstrapped, and reproducible toolchain for building software. It starts from a <190-byte x86 assembly seed, builds up through a C compiler to GCC, and supports cross-toolchains for all major architectures and programming languages. Key differentiators include a decentralized trust model (no single trusted entity), native OCI packaging (every package is an OCI layer), bit-for-bit reproducible builds, and multi-signature attestation using hardware-backed PGP keys. Compared to alternatives like Guix, Debian, Nix, Alpine, and others, StageX is one of only two systems (alongside Guix) that is fully bootstrappable from Stage0 and fully reproducible. It uses LLVM as its toolchain base, musl as its C standard library, and mallocng as its memory allocator.
