Pulumi operations get up to 20x faster with journaling, a new snapshotting approach that speeds up large stacks while keeping full data integrity.

Pulumi introduces journaling, a new snapshotting approach that speeds up infrastructure operations by up to 20x for large stacks. Instead of uploading complete snapshots after each resource operation, journaling sends individual change entries in parallel that can be replayed to reconstruct state. Benchmarks show a 3000+ resource stack completing in under 3 minutes versus nearly an hour previously. The feature preserves data integrity while eliminating the serialization bottleneck of the old snapshot system. Currently available as an opt-in feature for Pulumi Cloud users via environment variable, with plans for general availability by end of January 2026.
