SpaceX's company town of Starbase, Texas — home to roughly 580 residents adjacent to SpaceX's South Texas launch facility — is moving to establish its own municipal court with a part-time judge, prosecutor, and court clerk. The proposed ordinance was submitted during a city commission meeting, with the mayor set to serve as judge until a permanent appointment is made. This follows Starbase's earlier moves to create a volunteer fire department, handle its own building permits and fire code inspections, and launch a Starbase Police Department after a deal with the Cameron County Sheriff's Office fell through. The police department application revealed 420 law enforcement calls, 353 crashes, and over 7,000 daily vehicle trips on the city's main road in 2025.
