wrong. Software engineering is more then just coding. its about building and designed scalable and reliable code. AI is still just a good auto-complete right now.

I don’t believe so. Not these models. Between evidence that more data doesn’t make the models any better, RAG only making marginal improvements, and speculation about ChatGPT going bankrupt, things are looking bad.
Add in the fact that a number of AI startups are going under, which will drive off VC interest in AI and stifle research.
There will likely come a day, but when it does, it won’t just be software engineers. It’ll be everyone.

The article is a bit too optimistic. It’s conceptually possible to have a future with only AI agents communicating with each other building software. But nobody knows how long that will take or how accessible building a system like that will be.

AI needs human sources. It can generate a lot of code that is useful for machines, but humans still need something that meets their human needs. Look at the massive amount of AI-generated content, it becomes boring as hell and not humanly interesting in the end. AI garbage is generated at a fast rate, but people lose interest in it very quickly, the shiny surface is gone.
I recently heard that my role will change from software developer to some kind of scripting guy and manager. This will lose the interest of experienced developers, the company will end up with bad developers and will not be able to compete with other companies because it will become just average.
Good developers still exist and avoid your company and go to companies that make them happy and let them code.
Your existing software developers in the company will lose their skills relatively fast because all they do is manage code. They have lost the ability to create anything new. They lost the ability to be creative, they just become average.
