Sony Interactive Entertainment has entered an agreement to acquire machine learning company Cinemersive Labs to improve visuals and rendering techniques.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has agreed to acquire Cinemersive Labs, a UK-based machine learning and computer vision company founded in 2022. The company specializes in immersive 3D photography and video for VR/AR, including a monocular AI-based technology that can generate six degrees-of-freedom 3D content from a single smartphone photo. The Cinemersive Labs team will join SIE's Visual Computing Group to apply ML for enhancing gameplay visuals, improving rendering techniques, and increasing visual fidelity. This acquisition follows Sony's earlier merger with iSize in 2023 and the establishment of the VCG in 2024. The news comes amid other Sony developments including the closure of Bluepoint Games, a shift in PC multiplatform strategy, and a PlayStation hardware price increase.
