Snowflake's Cortex Code CLI coding agent has expanded beyond Snowflake's own ecosystem by adding support for dbt and Apache Airflow. Powered by Anthropic and OpenAI models, the agent uses Agent Skills—structured instruction packages—to help data engineers debug, optimize, and test pipelines. For dbt, it can auto-generate semantic models from well-structured tables and propagate downstream changes when schemas evolve. For Airflow, it automates tag-based pipeline setup and scheduling. Snowflake also introduced a self-service monthly subscription so non-Snowflake customers can access the agent. The vendor frames this as an early step toward supporting any data tooling regardless of location.
