SmartBear has updated its Swagger toolset to address API drift — the divergence between OpenAPI specifications and actual code behavior that accelerates when AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude generate code faster than specs can be updated. The two main additions are a revamped Swagger Catalog for centralized API portfolio visibility and contract testing with drift detection that runs in CI/CD pipelines to catch spec-to-runtime divergence before production. Additional updates include an AI-powered API editor, MCP server support for natural-language API automation, and expanded protocol support for OpenAPI 3.1, AsyncAPI 3.0, and GraphQL. SmartBear also introduced BearQ, an AI-native testing product that autonomously explores application functionality and generates test cases without requiring scripting knowledge.
