Yesterday I was asked to allow the usage of location services for Google Maps seemingly out of nowhere. After all, I just wanted to check a route to a local business and I was in a hurry.

Although, the majority of Google traffic is authenticated so connecting data across domains or subdomains which logged in with Google Workspaces or Gmail can be done on Google’s side.

Yea, this seems pretty reasonable actually cleaner, more logical urls…

If this is true (and I have no reason to believe it isn’t) then it’s not very transparent of Google without telling its users.
I know, I know “If I don’t want them to track me, then I shouldn’t let them have access to my data”, but it would still be good to be advised so we can make an informed decision rather than relying on someone to notice and point it out.
