We have spent a lot of time optimizing Tigris for small objects. This post shares the results of our benchmarks of comparing the performance of Tigris, AWS S3, and Cloudflare R2 when storing and retrieving small objects.

Tigris

Tigris object storage significantly outperforms AWS S3 and Cloudflare R2 for small object workloads, achieving sub-10ms read latency and sub-20ms write latency while delivering 4x higher throughput than S3 and 20x higher than R2. The performance gains come from optimizations like inlining small objects in metadata, coalescing adjacent keys, and LSM-backed caching. Benchmarks using YCSB with 10 million 1KB objects show Tigris completing data loads 31% faster than S3 and 10x faster than R2, making it suitable as a unified storage solution for mixed workloads.
