Hi, daily.dev community! Fellow Hack Clubber here (and part of <a href="https://github.com/hackclub-alumni" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">the Alumni Society</a>), and although it was rushed because it was a surprise, for context HC’s Slack bill is around USD 5,000+.

First, get as many users as you can. Second, don’t give a single shit about them and torture them with high charges until there’re cheaper alternatives.
Last, spend the money you made to enjoy the rest of your life

Exactly why I never got the Slack hype. Mattermost is open source, on-prem, and puts you in control, no surprise bills, no data hostage lol

We have had the Enterprise plan for years, but they changed their plans and for some reason we had to pay 3 times more with a 2 weeks notice. We paid, as there was not enough time to migrate anywhere our 7 years of data. We are currently building a solution based on Grist.
