David Capper built an RP2040-based fireplace glow simulator that goes beyond simple LED brightness control. It uses black-body radiation theory to determine realistic fire colors, and applies the heat equation to a grid of cells where temperatures randomly fluctuate and diffuse over time, producing a convincing crackling fire effect. The project includes a custom PCB and 3D-printed enclosure.
