The openwashdata project developed fairenough, an R package that simplifies research data publishing by automating the creation of FAIR-compliant data packages. The tool addresses barriers faced by WASH researchers who often lack programming expertise and rely on suboptimal data storage practices. fairenough provides a one-command pipeline that generates complete R data packages with automated documentation, metadata generation using LLMs, version control integration, and DOI assignment through Zenodo. The package evolved from an earlier tool called washr and aims to make open data practices more accessible to researchers with limited R experience.
