Never learn a framework before language, however the language.

Learn Javascript, please. Now, every developer must know Javascript. Stick to a language first; who cares about the framework? Are you kidding me with this catchy title?

I started with PHP long long ago, about 7 years now I discovered Laravel and never look back. I frecuently tell my firends who also are developers, that I’m not quite sure if I develop on PHP or on Laravel. I know of course I do PHP, but Laravel takes much more of the chores… and of course I don’t complain

Basic concepts in software engineering are universal. So they should be learned first. Programming languages are just a selection of concepts for a specific use case. Syntax differences and specific behavior of different languages can always be learned, when you understood the language independent basics.
A specifc language can also be used to learn the basics, but isn’t necessary. So even if you decide to start with a programming language, you should learn concepts and the language before any framework.
I totally understand the desire for quick visible results when you just started. But it’s as often in life: Fundamentals make you a better developer and more important: programming language and framework independent. I’ve used countless different languages and frameworks for different use cases and projects.
