A recap of a custom Linux-capable hardware name badge built for the Goatmire Elixir conference in Varberg, Sweden, sponsored by Tigris. The badge is based on the Allwinner T113-S4 SoC, runs Nerves (a Buildroot-based Linux + BEAM framework for IoT), and features an eInk display, Wi-Fi, and battery. Attendees could upload photos via a Phoenix LiveView app; approved images were converted to 1-bit dithered black-and-white and pushed to the badges. Media handling used Tigris pre-signed uploads/downloads. The hardware and software are fully open source, a Snake game was implemented live during the event, and the project is evolving into a broader Nerves Starter Kit with more peripherals.
