A recap of the ShiftAPPens 2026 hackathon, where Jakarta EE served as a gold sponsor. Around 150 students participated, with seven teams taking on the Jakarta EE challenge to build a 'Know-me-Engine' using LLM augmentation techniques. The winning team, VelociGrammers, built a movie recommendation assistant called Chaplin that integrated with TMDB profiles using Jakarta EE 11, LangChain4j-CDI, and WildFly. The event highlighted the importance of exposing students to Java and Jakarta EE technologies before entering the workforce.
