Appwrite and MongoDB have announced a strategic partnership aimed at giving developers a flexible, open-source backend platform without database lock-in. The first deliverable is official MongoDB support in Appwrite's self-hosted edition, where Appwrite spins up a MongoDB Community Edition container and manages it alongside other services. The roadmap includes MongoDB on Appwrite Cloud, a more idiomatic NoSQL/schema-flexible API, and broader database flexibility across the platform. Both communities benefit: Appwrite users gain database choice while MongoDB developers get access to a full backend layer including auth, storage, serverless functions, and hosting.
