GitHub secret scanning now supports extended metadata checks within security configurations, making it easier to enable the feature at scale across organizations and enterprises. Extended metadata checks enrich secret scanning alerts with additional context such as the secret owner's name, email, creation/expiry dates, and organizational details sourced from the secret provider. For example, leaked OpenAI keys can now display owner identity and org info. Repositories that already have validity checks enabled via security configurations will have extended metadata checks automatically enabled. The feature is available to GitHub Enterprise Cloud customers.
