A Dutch journalist demonstrated a significant security vulnerability by hiding a €5 Bluetooth tracker inside a postcard mailed to a Dutch naval warship. The tracker successfully revealed the ship's location for approximately 24 hours as it sailed in the Mediterranean, potentially exposing an entire carrier strike group. The incident revealed a gap in mail screening procedures — postcards, unlike packages, were not x-rayed before being brought aboard. Dutch authorities have since banned electronic greeting cards from being sent to naval vessels.
