Tyler Robert Buchanan, a 24-year-old British national and senior member of the cybercrime group Scattered Spider, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy and aggravated identity theft. Known by the alias 'Tylerb,' Buchanan admitted to orchestrating tens of thousands of SMS phishing attacks in 2022 that breached major tech companies including Twilio, LastPass, DoorDash, and Mailchimp. The stolen data was used to conduct SIM-swapping attacks that siphoned at least $8 million in cryptocurrency from individual investors. Buchanan fled the UK in early 2023 after a rival gang attacked his home, was arrested in Spain in June 2024, and extradited to the US in April 2025. He faces a maximum of 22 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for August 2026. He is the second Scattered Spider member to plead guilty, following Noah Urban who received a 10-year sentence.
