A survey of 667 project planning leaders by Tempo finds that only 70% of software projects deliver meaningful ROI, with over a third cancelled or stopped early. Organizations using scenario planning software showed a 17-percentage-point advantage in ROI delivery. Counterintuitively, teams with more mature planning processes cancelled more projects — but earlier — resulting in higher average profitability among surviving projects.
