A London High Court awarded Saudi satirist Ghanem Al-Masarir over £3 million in damages after finding compelling evidence his phone was hacked with Pegasus spyware. The court ruled the Saudi government directed or authorized the hacking and was likely responsible for a physical assault on Al-Masarir in 2018. Saudi Arabia claimed state immunity but the court rejected this defense, and the Kingdom subsequently withdrew from the litigation. The attacks ended Al-Masarir's YouTube career and caused severe depression.
