The statistics say that a trillion prompts are made daily (and probably increasing on daily base). Which give a rough estimation of 122400 gallons (~ 465000 liters) per day.

the thing about AI is, it is powerful, not always right, not good for society, but powerful. And it’s out there now, you can try and put a lid on it, but its progress, and eventually it will come back out. and it will be everywhere. It is, whether people like it or not, inevitable.
What humanity need to develop/support is better forms of energy production/cooling. AI’s environmental impact is only due to the limitations in our energy technologies.
But given that is the current issue then, yeah its use should be taxed proportionately, which would increase subscription costs, and would inevitably reduce its use.
The only reason why all these companies allow you to use it for free to produce a song about cats in Christopher Walken’s voice, is because you are helping them train their models. They shouldn’t be allowed to benefit from destroying our environment.
