JetBrains, the makers of popular cross platform IDEs and developers' tools such as Rider, CLion, ReSharper, IntelliJ, WebStorm and more, just announced upcoming pricing changes to their subscription model that will make things more expensive for future purchases.  Thankfully it does not *seem* to apply to individual licenses and current subscriptions will be grandfathered, so it will only be to future purchases of JetBrains tools.  If your'e on the fence about subscribing to JetBrains products, you really want to consider doing it before January 2nd, 2025 though!

JetBrains is set to increase prices for organizational subscriptions starting January 2, 2025. While individual subscriptions appear unaffected, organizations will lose the continuity discounts, potentially making JetBrains products up to 40% more expensive. Current subscribers should consider renewing before the deadline to retain existing discount rates.

Only IntelliJ makes sense for Java development, the rest are either free or not relevant. To be fair, I used only eclipse and netbeans.

This makes their tools less appealing. I’m not denying the work it takes to develop them, but they are offering paid solutions to markets with just as comparable free offerings. The majority of what they offer can be handled with VS Code or a terminal editor like Neovim. In some instances, their tools (like Data Grip) are worse than existing free options. I recently was demoing DG for SQL Server and they don’t even have the full dialect implemented. Data Grip is arguably not enterprise ready (if using SQL Server) unless you’re using an open source option.
