I often daydream about the lives of people who picked up C just at this perfect time, right at the start.
After they learned this relatively small language, they could then have spent DECADES writing JUST C, one language for all programs, on all devices.

No Boilerplate

It draws a parallel with Rust, positioning Rust as the modern successor to C due to its low-level portability, compatibility, and efficiency. The author argues that learning Rust now could offer a similar career stability and flexibility as C did for developers in the past.

Rust is the New C

I disagree with the notion that Rust is the new C. A language like Zig might be a more convincing candidate for that title due to its strong interoperability. On the other hand, Rust isn’t typically recognized for its productivity. It has a steep learning curve, and as the codebase grows, its complexity often increases more than in other languages.
I’m not suggesting that Rust doesn’t have its own merits; I’m saying that Rust will never rival C in terms of its inherent simplicity.

Such an elaborate script and well made presentation… to share his opinion as fact.
Rust is the new C… for him.
Granted it is the same for many, but when people learn how to use memory and write safer code by fighting the borrow-checker and grow tired of the sea of sigils and complexity of Rust, they tend to drop back to C… and now Zig, Odin, C3, and some other experimental languages that will be stable one day, providing a compelling middle ground between C and Rust.

Compare the complexity of C and Rust compile.
Compare the possibility and “lightweight-ness” of C binaries running pretty much anywhere and cargo-heavy builds on Rust.
This is something, that is often omitted in the comparisons.

Zig and C all day, everyday. C’s simplicity is yet to be beaten, but zig is a fair update. Rust is way past the simplicity range and falls into complexity spectrum. I don’t know about others but I believe in the motto of some scientist who said, “The better you understand something, the simpler will be your explanation” or something along those lines, you got the gist, right? So yeah, Rust may have bunch of shiny things and SECURITY but don’t forget C and Zig are not inherently insecure either. What can be done in Rust, can be done in C and zig as well.
