The Rust Project is participating in Outreachy for the first time, starting with the May 2026 cohort. Four interns have been selected for projects covering: calling overloaded C++ functions from Rust, code coverage of the Rust compiler at scale, fuzzing the a-mir-formality type system implementation, and improving GitHub Actions security for the Rust Project. Outreachy targets people facing underrepresentation or systemic bias in tech, and differs from Google Summer of Code in that communities fund intern stipends and contributions are required during the application process.
