The Rust Foundation's Interop Initiative is transitioning from research to implementation, focusing on improving Rust–C++ interoperability. After publishing a formal problem statement and engaging with the C++ standards committee (WG21/ISO), the Foundation concluded that near-term practical improvements are more impactful than waiting for broad memory-safe C++ standardization (which could take until 2029+). A contractor (Teor) has been engaged to advance the Rust/C++ Interop Problem Space Mapping goal, coordinate working groups, and support tooling and infrastructure improvements for mixed-language development environments.
