Roblox launches real-time AI chat rephrasing to filter out banned language

Roblox is rolling out a real-time AI-powered chat rephrasing feature that replaces banned words with contextually appropriate alternatives, rather than simply substituting them with "####" symbols. The system preserves the user's original intent while keeping conversations civil, and notifies all chat participants when a message has been rephrased. It supports all languages available through Roblox's translation tools. Alongside this, Roblox is upgrading its text filter to better detect leetspeak and filter-bypass attempts, achieving a 20x reduction in false negatives for personal information sharing. The announcement follows Roblox's recent introduction of mandatory facial verification for chat access, amid ongoing child safety lawsuits from multiple state attorneys general.
