Roblox is implementing facial age estimation technology through Persona to verify user ages and restrict communication between minors and adults. Currently voluntary, the system assigns users to age-specific chat groups (under 9, 9-12, 13-15, 16-17, 18-20, 21+) and limits access to chat features until verification is completed. The requirement becomes mandatory in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands in December 2024, expanding globally in January 2025. Images and videos used for verification are deleted immediately after processing.
