RCA attempted to challenge IBM's dominance in the mainframe computer market during the 1960s-70s with their Spectra 70 series, featuring innovative virtual memory systems and competitive pricing. Despite offering better performance-to-price ratios than IBM's System/360 and David Sarnoff's prescient vision of global computing networks, RCA captured less than 10% market share and eventually sold their computer division to Sperry. The company is now largely forgotten in computing history, remembered more for consumer electronics than their mainframe ambitions.
