OpenWrt 25.12.0, named 'Dave's Guitar' in honor of the late Dave Täht, is the first stable release of the 25.12 series. Key changes include over 4700 commits since 24.10, a switch from the opkg package manager to apk (Alpine Package Keeper), default integration of the Attended Sysupgrade (ASU) tool for easier firmware upgrades, shell history preserved in RAM, Wi-Fi scripts rewritten in ucode for better performance, and support for over 2200 devices including 180+ new ones. The Linux kernel is updated to 6.12.71, GCC to 14.3.0, and other core components are refreshed. OpenWrt 24.10 will reach end of life in September 2026. Upgrade paths from 24.10 are supported via LuCI ASU, owut CLI, or the Firmware Selector.
